Departing from previous scholarship that primarily emphasizes the documentation of performance forms and functions, this article highlights how cultural values are articulated through lexical choices, ancestral characterization, the structuring of origin myths, and the human–nature relationship within the poetic text. The primary data consists of Hohó texts documented by the Nias Heritage Foundation (Yayasan Pusaka Nias), supported by ethnographic references, oral tradition studies, and Nias cultural sources. A qualitative-interpretative analysis was employed, involving data reduction, thematic coding of values, and the interpretation of representation—grounded in representation theory—while linking meanings to the frameworks of cultural memory and narrative identity. Data validity was maintained through source triangulation and semantic validation via expert and cultural practitioner review. The findings reveal six dominant values: reverence for ancestors, human–nature interconnectedness, customary leadership, bravery and honor, kinship unity, and spirituality. These results affirm that Hohó is not merely an aesthetic expression, but a vital mechanism for the transmission of values and the reinforcement of cultural identity for the Nias people, particularly in the South Nias region.
Merri Christina Zalukhu ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2025-12-31 2025-12-31 7 2 43 54 10.51543/hiskimalang.v7i2.129 Inner Resistance in Ayi Jufrida's Kabut Perang: Conflict and Post-Peace Realities of Aceh https://journal.hiskimalang.com/index.php/hiskimalang/article/view/132
This study aims to describe the inner conflicts depicted in a novel themed around the Aceh conflict and the realities of post-peace society. The research employed a qualitative method with documentation and document analysis techniques. The data source of this study is Kabut Perang (2010), a novel by Ayi Jufridar, published by Universal Nikko, consisting of 358 pages and bearing ISBN 9786029547627. The data analyzed include words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs that contain elements of inner conflict. The findings reveal that the novel Kabut Perang portrays inner struggles within its characters and events. The identified forms of inner conflict include: (1) emotional turmoil, (2) repression of problems, (3) revenge, (4) dissemination of ideology, (5) rejection of reconciliation, (6) moral dilemmas, (7) propagation of hatred, (8) wavering faith, (9) guilt, (10) doubt in struggle, (11) loyalty and betrayal, (12) resilience, and (13) disobedience. These manifestations of inner conflict are rooted in the author’s sociological perspective and the realities experienced within society. In the post-peace era, such inner conflicts have increasingly been expressed openly. The paper investigates three key areas: the rationale for Kenai's transformation into a bear, the resultant shifts in his beliefs and perspectives, and the film's portrayal of the human-animal relationship. Using a descriptive qualitative methodology, the analysis examines key scenes and dialogue, applying a theoretical framework that includes characterization, mise-en-scène, empathy, and immersive transformation theories. The findings indicate that Kenai's transformation is a consequence of his grief and anger following his brother's death, an act of revenge aligning with violence theory. Initially an immature and arrogant adolescent who views bears as violent creatures, Kenai undergoes a profound shift in perspective. His immersive transformation deepens his empathy, leading to his maturation into a responsible and compassionate individual. The film ultimately portrays the human-animal relationship as one of spiritual and emotional equality, highlighting the potential for harmonious coexistence. The acceptance of Kenai and Koda into the human tribe at the film's conclusion symbolizes reconciliation and mutual respect, minimizing the initial tensions and conflicts.
Keiko Shellomita Hosana FX Dono Sunardi ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-02-21 2026-02-21 7 2 69 80 10.51543/hiskimalang.v7i2.125 Gachapon Media Design in Poetry Writing Learning for Grade VIII Junior High School Students https://journal.hiskimalang.com/index.php/hiskimalang/article/view/83
Learning to write poetry plays an important role in developing students' language skills, imaginative power, and emotional sensitivity. Despite its importance, poetry writing lessons often face obstacles, such as students having difficulty starting their writing, choosing diction, or finding suitable ideas. Consequently, a learning medium is needed that can stimulate creativity while helping students find ideas for writing. Gachapon media offers uniqueness because it combines elements of games, interactivity, and creativity in poetry writing lessons. Inspired by Japanese capsule toy machines, this medium utilizes random vocabulary to stimulate students' imaginations, making learning more enjoyable through play. The purpose of this research is to design and describe Gachapon media as a tool in teaching poetry writing materials in Grade VIII. This research is categorized as development research that produces a Gachapon learning media product. The development model used adapts the 4D model consisting of the define, design, and develop stages. Meanwhile, this media has not yet reached the disseminate stage due to limited time and costs. Media validation was carried out by one media expert lecturer. The results of the study show that Gachapon can be utilized as a medium in learning to write poetry in Grade VIII. However, the validation results indicate that there are several things that need to be improved, namely the paper containing vocabulary needs to be typed and there needs to be instructions for using the media.
Rahmawati Mulyaningtyas Dimas Fajar Abidin ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-03-02 2026-03-02 7 2 81 96 10.51543/hiskimalang.v7i2.83 Artificial Intelligence in the Creation of Interactive Digital Media for the Tale of Bayan Budiman https://journal.hiskimalang.com/index.php/hiskimalang/article/view/128
The transformation of conventional learning to digital learning is increasingly characterized by artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence can be used to create interactive digital media for storytelling materials. However, artificial intelligence raises ethical issues and concerns among teachers. This study aims to (1) explain generative artificial intelligence in the creation of interactive digital media and (2) describe interactive digital media as a learning medium for Bayan Budiman's storytelling. This paper used descriptive qualitative methods to design interactive digital media based on artificial intelligence in storytelling learning. The results of this study indicate that artificial intelligence can assist teachers in producing multimodal interactive digital media and receive positive feedback from students. Artificial intelligence can be used as a solution to produce media while maintaining the students' thinking process to address the issue of using artificial intelligence in learning
M Maryaeni Faizal Hadi Nugroho ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-03-05 2026-03-05 7 2 97 110 10.51543/hiskimalang.v7i2.128
